Good Sleep Leads to Good Health

Sleep disordered breathing is composed of a spectrum of breathing disorders that can occur during sleep.  It is a very common problem in Canadians, with approximately 9 to 15 people in a hundred affected on average.  It can lead to serious disorders if left unchecked, such as heart disease, lung disease, stroke, metabolic disease, along with issues relating to accidents and concentration.

Watch this video from the Heart and Stroke Foundation:  What will your last 10 years look like?  The message is this:  Invest in your health now by being fit and smart, and beat the odds of living in sickness later.

The Snore Shop is a clinic that tests for and treats those with sleep disordered breathing (SDB). One common and serious manifestation is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). OSA is the most common sleep disorder affecting people in Canada.

We work very carefully with patients and their physicians to accurately test, treat and support those with SDB. We use the ARES, a device that fits on your head like a baseball cap, for our at-home sleep studies. Not only is this device accurate but it is more comfortable than ANY other sleep study devices, allowing you to get a better night’s sleep.

At Home Sleep Studies are available on a walk-in basis without a referral from your doctor. See our questionnaire if you are trying to decide if you need a study.  You should always try to discuss matters with your physician or your dentist.  Results will be forwarded to your family physician, dentist or specialist for review.  Once you discuss those results with your health professional, they will be in a position to help you find solutions.

The Snore Shop is pleased to offer solutions for snoring and sleep apnea.  We encourage healthy choices with our patients.  Our clinicians are certified to work with those needing CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) therapy for obstructive sleep apnea. We follow our patients very closely, especially during their first few months of treatment, in order to improve successful management.  We then increase time between our visits to up to once every 3-6 months depending on how comfortable our patients are with their therapy. Follow up is crucial to becoming comfortable with a CPAP device and ensuring that it is effectively treating the sleep related breathing disorder.

Finding and managing sleep apnea as early as possible will help reduce the impact of both the short term and long term risks to your health.  In seeing our patients regularly we ensure that your CPAP therapy is working for you every day, keeping you healthy.

That being said, the Snore Shop is not just about CPAP therapy.  We offer many solutions for those who snore or have sleep apnea that do not involve CPAP therapy, ranging from oral and nasal devices to surgical procedures, all designed to fit the needs of the client, and managed by trained clinicians in the field.  Ask our team if you have any questions.
