Minimally Invasive Surgery

The Snore Shop is the only home care facility in Atlantic Canada offering minimally invasive procedures for control of primary snoring and mild obstructive sleep apnea.  These procedures may also be used in conjunction with positive pressure therapy in order to facilitate airflow.  All procedures are done by Board Certified Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Procedures offered include:

Radiofrequency turbinoplasty
Turbinate lateralization
Radiofrequency palate reduction
Pillar Implant(R) for palate stiffening

Children with Obstructive Symptoms

We also manage children with obstructive sleep apnea or obstructive features through our relationship with the Isaak Walton Killam Hospital.  Studies have shown an association between obstructive features and attention deficit disorders and cognitive behavioural problems in children.

Pediatric procedures include:

Turbinoplasty
Tonsillectomy / adenoidectomy
Powered intracapsular tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy

What happens

Patients who have undergone at-home or in-hospital sleep testing at any institution are welcome. Patients with studies done outside the Snore Shop should bring a copy of their study with them. A complimentary appointment is made with one of our two medical directors / owners, Drs. LeBlanc and Smith. At this appointment, the surgeon will interview you regarding your symptoms and your general health, examine your airway and go over your sleep study with you. They will then discuss surgical options appropriate to your anatomy and your sleep study results. They will provide a full report and this will be forwarded to your family physician. If you and the surgeon agree to a surgical procedure, all risks and costs (if any) will be explained at this time. A date and time will be booked that day for the procedure.
